Squads
Congratulations to Joshua Hanrahan, Robert Panozza, Sophie Grumley and Emma Waite for representing Central Gippsland region in the Ambassadors Cup. They finished fifth out of 10 teams, and played far better than the final results indicate Sophie was also selected to represent Victoria.
And well done also for the young mixed squad members who represented Central Gippsland in the Wayne Arthurs Cup. The team of Stephanie Bishop, Josh Charlton, Shayla Marsh and Hayden Peavey finished 7th out of 16.
Sophie Grumley, Sophie Kennedy, Shayla Marsh and Alex Kirkbright represented Central Gippsland Tennis region at the Foundation Cup held on 16 and 17 November 2008 in Bairnsdale. Central Gippsland were placed fifth overall. Congratulations to all players on their selection and their result.
Congratulations to Nic Tile, Alastair Salerno, Daniel Axnick and Jarryd Garlick who represented Central Gippsland at the John Fitzgerald Cup in early November 2008. The team finished equal ninth.
Again, congratulations to the Central Gippsland Tennis Teams who finished in the top four at the 2008 Association/regional Teams Challenge held at Bendigo on 7-9 June 2008. Central Gippsland were due to play off for third or fourth spot when rain stopped play.
Central Gippsland were represented by Joseph Colaciello, Nic Tile, Amelia Charlton, Shayla Marsh, James Sheppard, Sam Stoddart, Sophie Grumley, Megan Garlick, Ben Anderson, Tristan Salerno, Vicky Stuckey and Natasha Tile.
It was another outstanding result for the Central Gippsland team who placed 8th out of 16 in Victoria for the Alicia Molik Cup. The team was Amelia Charlton, Joseph Colaciello, Alistair Jenkin and Shayla Marsh. The team finished second in their section.
The Inter-Regional Tournament team for the tournament held at Warrnambool on 4-6 January 2008 was:
Boys 16 & under: Ben Anderson (Pakenham), Alex Waite (Traralgon).
Girls 16 & under: Natasha Tile (Traralgon), Tessa Hawke (Traralgon).
Boys 14 & under: Josh Hanrahan (Traralgon), Brendan Herman (Pakenham).
Girls 14 & under: Emma Waite (Traralgon), Sophie Grumley (Traralgon).
Boys 12 & under: Nick Tile (Traralgon), Joseph Colaciello (Traralgon).
Girls 12 & under: Sophie Kennedy (Morwell), Alex Kirkbright (Morwell).
Mens open: Andrew Peavey (Morwell).
Central Gippsland finished sixth of the 10 contesting regions, and won the Cooke Shield for the most improved region.

Eligibility conditions for junior regional cups
The competition shall be open to all Associations and Regions, with clubs affiliated to Tennis Victoria and the Victorian Country Tennis Association (VCTA). Each representative of an Association or Region must be a member of a Tennis Victoria affiliated club (including VCTA affiliated clubs) within that Association or Region.
Where a club is operational for 6 months of the year the representative will need to have played competition tennis for a Tennis Victoria or VCTA affiliated club within that Association or Region for 50% of the season.
Where a club is operational for 12 months of the year the representative will need to have played competition tennis for a Tennis Victoria or VCTA affiliated club within that Association or Region for 50% of the year.
The representative has trained with the Association or Region.
Players not meeting the eligibility criteria and seeking selection may individually apply for special consideration through their Association or Region to the Tournament Manager, whose decision will be final.

Selection for regional teams is generally in accordance with Selection Guidelines from Tennis Victoria (PDF format, 34 kB). The guidelines also include a nomination form and timelines for the selection procedure.
Tennis Victoria encourages the establishment of regional junior training squads and has guidelines on the squads' organisation and training (PDF format, 202 kB).
Performance pathways
The Gippsland Sports Academy's Tennis Program provides advancement pathways for promising junior players. The program is supported by Tennis Victoria. Squad selection is usually made towards the end of each year.
